Parasuram Kunda :
To the north-east of India and to the east of Arunachal is the Lohit district inhabited by the Mishmis. Stemming from Tibet flows the Lohit river. There is a basin (kunda) 70 ft long and 30 ft broad, the sacred Hindu shrine at a turning point on the southern coast of Lohit . The origin of this basin is attributed to the erotic stories about Amogha, the exquisitely beautiful wife of the sage Shantanu and Pra-japati Brahma. According to Kalika Purana the wife of the highly spirited sage Jamadagni Renuka became the victim of lust of the young KshatriyaTdng Chitrarath. As per the verdict of the enraged sage for inflicting punishment the son Bhargava killed his mother Renuka with the axe in his hand and was relieved of the sin by bathing in this basin (Kunda) and drinking its water. Since then the Brahma-Kunda of the past has been named as Parasuram Kunda. The temple of Parasuram with his marble statue has also been erected.
